Looking to find a laid-back writing experience?
Want to get some time away to relax and concentrate on your work?
Interested in meeting new writers with whom you can share your work?
If so, our God’s Whisper Farm Writer’s Retreats are the place for you.
On July 29-31, 2016, 30 writers will come to enjoy this quiet space in Radiant, Virginia in rural Madison County to give a weekend just to focus on our work and our lives as writers. Andi Cumbo-Floyd, Shawn Smucker, and Kelly Chripczuk will facilitate the workshops, and each participant will have an opportunity to give a reading, receive feedback from other writers, and participate in a casual, relaxing weekend experience.
As part of your time here on the farm, you will:
Have an opportunity to participate in an open mic reading.
Be part of a small, focused workshop group.
Hear a gifted writer give a fireside reading.
Savor healthy meals.
Meet other writers.
Ask lots of questions.
Spend time with animals – goats, chickens, cats, and dogs.
Be given plenty of time to wander, reflect, and rest.
I hope that sounds as heavenly to you as it does to me.
When you leave the retreat, you will have:
Received specific feedback on your work in progress
Produced several pages of new work that you can work with now or in the future
Met writers with whom you can connect in the future
Spent time in a relaxing space.
Give focused time and attention to your writing.
Plus, you’ll have the opportunity to work intimately with Andi, eat meals made from local, home-grown food, and hear a special night of music and words on Saturday night. All at a quiet rural farm that is more than 200 years old.

Saturday’s schedule will include craft talks, workshop groups, more good food, and a special evening event. Our presenters are Jennifer Niesslein of Full Grown People, Christie Purifoy, author of Roots and Sky, and Anne Carley of Chenille Books. That afternoon, Shawn Smucker and Andi Cumbo-Floyd will be leading discussions on various aspects of the writer’s life including the need for silence, the importance of a writing practice, and some tips for getting to the page on a regular basis.
Saturday evening, Sharon Morgan will be giving a reading from her own creative work, and we’ll all have a chance to talk with her about writing nonfiction.
Sunday morning, we will wrap up our time together with a visit from Jane Friedman, who will be joining us to talk about the business side of writing; you won’t want to miss that. Then, we’ll do a bit of goal-setting, conversation, questions, and an exchange of contact information.
Participants will have plenty of time to relax, pet the farm animals, take walks, rock on the front porch of the farm house, and just wind down.
More detailed schedule to follow.
All meals will be made with as much attention to dietary restrictions, allergies, and preferences as possible. Please use the “Contact Andi” box at the bottom of the screen to ask us any questions about food or to inform us if you have specific dietary needs. Thank you.
