Get Away. Relax. Connect. Write.

At the God's Whisper Farm Writers' Retreat, we believe in the importance of community, of connection, of open space and air in a place where we can think, explore, and relax.

During your time here, you will have the opportunity to participate in a writing workshop, hear craft talks from accomplished writers, share meals with other writers, and take time to hear yourself think.  Our goal in this retreat is to give you a place and opportunity to go deeper into your writing life.

Our schedule is full but not busy, and we put an emphasis on time together and alone. On God's Whisper Farm, you'll have the chance to take walks, sit on the front porch, spend time with the animals, and enjoy the quiet of the Virginia countryside.

Come meet and spend time with writers who write in various genres and for various reasons.

Travel to God's Whisper Farm?

God's Whisper Farm is not accessible by public transportation, but we are happy to help you coordinate carpools with other participants, travel from train stations or airports, and do all we can to make your travel as easy as possible.

What should I wear?

June in Virginia is usually warm but comfortable. The barn in which we will meet is not air conditioned, so dress for warm weather. You will be visiting a working farm, so if you'd like to take walks or greet the animals, closed-toed shoes are recommended. This is a very casual affair.

What kind of animals are at the farm?

We have dogs, cats, goats, and chickens. The barn in which we will meet does not house any animals except our barn cats, and we will clean it as thoroughly as possible to avoid allergic reactions for our guests. However, this is a working farm, so animals and their accompanying smells and sounds will be present.

Can you accommodate food preferences and allergies?

Please do let us know if you have food requests or allergies. We will absolutely avoid any foods that cause severe allergic reactions, and we will do our best to accommodate everyone's food preferences as well.

Can I stay at the farm?

Yes, we have two options available for you to stay at the farm. The first is our bunkroom in the barn. We have one bunk bed available to a male participant for $25 per night. These are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. (Note, you will be sharing this room with another male.)

You are also welcome to pitch a tent and camp out in the field by the barn. These spaces are free of charge and available also on a first-come, first-served basis.  Please contact us through the link above or at [email protected] to reserve your space.
