Contrary to what some people might say, I like to get moving pretty quickly in the morning. I’m not a person who likes to roll around in bed (most days) and put off the actual start of the day. Instead, I like to get up, head to the coffee pot, do some small chores, and get to the work of the day.
Often, the work of the day begins with a little reading and some writing, before I even log into the computer. If I’m having a really good day, then I turn on the computer and write a few pages before I lose myself in email and Facebook. I just write best in the mornings.
I also walk best in the mornings. Today, I grabbed my shoes and headed out the door before 7am. It felt great. The city was fairly quiet. Lots of dogs were out for their morning strolls, owners in tow. The heat hadn’t gotten too brutal yet, and it was nice to start my day by getting something important done.
That’s the thing about mornings for me – they allow me to get the most important work of the day finished before I move into the regular work of the day. Now, if only I could figure out how to make them last longer and still get lots of sleep . . .
What about you? What’s your favorite part of the day and why? When do you do your best work?
