Every time I get away from the city, I find myself longing to live in the country. Yet, I suspect that if I lived in the country, I might long for the city, too. What I never long for is the suburbs.
I like to walk and both the city and the country give me that opportunity – one in a world of plants and animals and one in a world of people. The contrasts are great, but the chances for observation are equal. There’s nothing better than seeing a cardinal amongst the underbrush except maybe seeing a child telling his mom about school as they wait for the crosswalk.
I often long for life away from busyness, and here in Basye, I have that. But I do wonder if I would grow to tire for this slowness. Perhaps, I will find out one day. Perhaps not.
