Sorry for the long lag between posts. I’m between semesters, and I took some well-needed time to rest, read and present two conference papers.

I’ve been re-reading Angela Carter these days. Her work is amazing. Her book Saints and Strangers was assigned to me in college as part of a postmodern fictions class, and I’ve been a fan ever since.

Her short stories are often revisions of fairy tales, usually from a feminist perspective. One of my favorites is “The Love Lives of Lady Purple.” Great stuff. Bloody, empowering, and beautiful – a lovely trio.

For other writers like Carter, particularly in their incorporate of fairy tales, I’d also recommend you look at the work of A.S. Byatt.
